How To Find the Best Seat on Spirit Airlines

Spirit Airlines is for its inexpensive pricing and frequent flights to popular holiday locations. But, due to the airlines pricing policy. Selecting your seat and more services beyond the ticket will cost you more while flying Spirit.

Before you book your ticket, here’s what you should know about Spirit Airlines seat selection including the many types of seats available and how much they may cost.

Spirit Airlines’ Seat Assignment

As an ultra-low-cost carrier, Spirit’s standard policy is that seat selection is not free. And customers should expect to pay for seats on each leg of their trip.

The only travelers who do not pay a seat selection cost are Free Spirit elite status members. They receive free seat selection as one of the program’s benefits.

When you book, you may make payments for seat selection and luggage as a component of your package. Or, you can select your seats as a trip add-on during the booking process or at any time thereafter, including check-in.

Do I need to choose a seat on Spirit Airlines

Travelers looking to fly as cheaply as possible can avoid paying for seat selection. In that instance, the airline will allocate them a seat at random during check-in.

Yes, that means you may wind up sitting separate from your trip buddies. The airline states that it cannot guarantee that travelers will have assigned seats next to one another, regardless of whether they bought their tickets on a single booking.

However, the airline said gate workers and flight attendants would strive to arrange adjacent seats.  “whenever possible” for passengers aged 13 and younger flying with an adult.

This promise is insufficient to meet the U.S. Department of Transportation’s new proposal that airlines provide adjacent family seating at no more expense.

Spirit Airlines Seat Types

Unlike other airlines that offer a variety of seat types and service levels, Spirit offers only three alternatives.

Standard seats

Spirit’s basic seats account for the vast majority of seats on the aircraft. A basic seat can be purchased alone or as part of a package, which we will cover shortly.

You may want to compare a regular seat to economy class on another airline. You should not expect much more than a place to sit. As a low-cost airline, you’ll have to make payments for anything. From drinks as well as refreshments to carry-on bags and other amenities.

Premium seats

On Spirit, premium seats are exit row seats that provide some more legroom. But also need passengers to be able and willing to assist in an emergency. According to federal standards, travelers under 15 cannot select these seats.

Big front seats

While Spirit does not have a real first-class cabin, it does provide bigger seats with more legroom at the front of the plane. The airline refers to the seats in this section as Big Front Seats.

With eight or 10 such seats available on each flight, they were depending on the plane. Big Front Seat occupants enjoy up to 32% more legroom than normal seats. There is no intermediate seat because all Big Front Seats are windows or side seats.

How to choose seats on Spirit Airlines

When it comes to selecting a seat on Spirit, there are three major options:

  • Pay for seats a la carte upon booking, or anytime up until check-in.
  • Pay for a package that includes seat selection, baggage, and more perks like priority boarding.
  • You can skip seat selection and not pay anything. This option will cause the airline to assign you a seat at check-in.

Spirit Airlines’ seat selection costs

Seat assignment costs might vary depending on the plane and seat you select. Spirit promotes the price of a regular seat as starting at $5 per flight and rising to $200 under the most expensive conditions.

A Big Front Seat costs between $12 to $750 for each route. It will be more expensive than normal seats because of the more room. You can also save money by paying to upgrade to a Big Front Seat on the day of your journey. Albeit there is always the possibility that none will be available.

Spirit Airlines’ Seat Selection Recap

When traveling with a low-cost carrier for instance Spirit Airlines. Your ticket will only include a seat on the airplane and an item of clothing that fits beneath the seat. Anything else, including selecting your seat, will be extra.

When booking a Spirit Airlines flight, some study and planning might help you save money. Determine your most pressing needs—whether it’s a full-sized bag, expedited boarding, or seat selection. And then test the cost of combining your add-on services vs. purchasing them.

And, if you intend to fly Spirit frequently, augmenting your travel with an airline-branded credit card is an excellent way to achieve elite status and get free seat selection.
