The MP5K, a super-compact variant of the MP5, is lightweight, smooth shooting, and nimble in the hands. It’s sort of akin to an AR-15 pistol in that regard, but chambered in a handgun caliber instead of something like 5.56.
But as ARP fans will tell you, while the platform is easy to conceal, handling lacks a little.
On that note, here are 3 ways you can upgrade your MP5K (or clone) to boost performance, improve handling, and enjoy the overall shooting experience just a little bit more.

Add an MP5K Stock
One of the biggest drawbacks of the MP5K arises, ironically, from one of its biggest virtues. The lack of a stock on the design keeps it compact and enables it to handle like an ARP, but that also somewhat limits it, too.
There are side-folding MP5K stocks you can get that are easy to install, afford significantly improved handling, ergonomics, and recoil control, and which will improve your accuracy well out to intermediate ranges.
They will add a little weight to the gun, but a side-folding model will give you the flexibility not to fire the gun from the shoulder, if you so wish, and some of them are enriched with value-added features like sling mount points.
All in all, this is definitely one of the best upgrades you can make to your MP5K or a clone based on its design.
Add a Red Dot Sight
In its native state you might not be able to easily mount an RDS (or anything) to the receiver. But there are some lookalikes, such as the ZF5-P from Zenith Firearms, that are emboldened with some shooter-friendly features that make this more possible.
Case in point, the ZF5-P is made with a claw rail over the receiver so you can mount an optic, and for a tiny platform like this, it’s hard to beat a red dot sight.
If you can add a red dot sight to yours, it will potentially improve target acquisition, even with a bad mount (if you have a folding stock) or when shooting offhand (if not). It will also enable more accurate shot placement and potentially faster follow-up shots, especially in low-light conditions.
Add a Suppressor
Lastly, consider adding a suppressor to your MP5K. Not only will it make the gun quieter, it will also help reduce recoil and muzzle jump.
Notwithstanding the extra mass it will add, a suppressor can help cut back on muzzle jump and overall recoil, which, like an RDS and a folding stock, can help you connect with targets more efficiently, improve accuracy, and possibly even enable faster and more confident follow-up shots.
A suppressor will extend the length and weight of the gun’s overall footprint, though, so be aware of that.
One more note for running a suppressor on your MP5K is that it will increase chamber pressures and result in a lot more fouling in the gun, so cleaning will be a little more involved. Nonetheless, it can be an excellent MP5 upgrade.
