New South Wales police have seized two kangaroo joeys and firearms after searching a car during a four-day operation in the Hunter Valley.
Police officers stopped a 27-year-old man on Hunter Road north of Muswellbrook on June 4 after he was allegedly found to be illegally possessing two young kangaroo joeys.
In NSW native mammals like kangaroos, quolls and sugar gliders are not allowed to be kept as pets.

The joeys were taken to a wildlife care centre where they received treatment.
After police finished searching the vehicle they also found ammunition and firearms, which were seized for forensic examination.
The man was arrested and his firearm licence was suspended.
He has since been released and is pending further investigation.
The raid the was part of Operation 'Devil Ark' which was established by officers in the Rural Crime Prevention team in the Hunter Valley Police District.
It aims to target rural crime such as illegal hunting, trespassing and stock movements.
