If you are using RO water purifier, then you have to keep in mind that its RO membrane and filter should be changed at the right time. RO means Reverse Osmosis. It is a water purification process that removes dissolved impurities in drinking water and makes it clean and drinkable. Timely replacement of RO filter and membrane is very important to drink 100% pure and safe water. If it is not changed then the water will not be filtered properly.
Use of filter in RO
Usually three filters are provided in RO. With the help of these filters, dust and dirt are separated from the water. You must have often seen that there is a cylinder like part outside the RO where there is water connection. Inside it is the first filter, which should be changed every three months. After this, two more filters are given to refine the water.
Use of Membrane
Apart from the normal filter, RO also has a membrane. It has very fine filters, which separate salt from salt water and make the water sweet. Membrane can be used in RO for about one year. If the membrane of RO gets damaged, the taste of water starts changing. In such a situation, you should get the RO membrane replaced between 8 to 12 months. By doing this you get pure water and your health remains fine.
Maintenance of water purifier is very important for clean water. When we talk about the maintenance of RO purifier, the first thing that comes to our mind is that if the filter and membrane are not changed from time to time, then the water will not be clean.
It is important that you understand the filter replacement schedule as filters and membranes are vital parts of a water purifier, and the cost of replacing filters and membranes accounts for almost 80% of the total maintenance cost of an RO purifier.
Now the question arises that after how many days the RO filter should be changed. The RO pre-filter (installed outside the RO water purifier) should ideally be replaced every 3 – 4 months. The replacement time may be more or less depending on the quality and quantity of purified water.
Other filters, including sediment filters and carbon filters, should be replaced every 6-12 months, depending on how much water you purify and how good or bad the input water is.
In how many days should the membrane be changed?
Generally, RO plant membranes last for around 2-3 years, however, we have seen them lasting up to 4-5 years. If there is very hard water or if you never clean the membrane, your RO membrane may already be damaged.
