Exploring The Origins of Your Favourite Comfort Food

Origins favourite Food

Everyone has a favourite comfort food and drink choice, if you ask 10 people in a room you’re likely to get 10 different answers.

That’s because we all have different palates and memories associated with nostalgia – memories from our travels across Italy or a hearty family gathering where the food just hits the spot every time. It is the meal that when you hear it’s on the menu or for tea you think about it all day until it is in front of your face.

Many people from different countries agree with the notion that comfort food and drinks are those that are delicious and convenient to make.

Pasta al Pomodoro

The tomato is the quintessential symbol of traditional cuisine, and it is also one of the flavours everybody associates with Italy. Today, all historians agree that the introduction of tomatoes within Italian cuisine transformed culinary history.

The classic yet always delicious tomato pasta has so much versatility, you can have it in 20 different ways and the best part is it acts as a blank canvas for you to get creative and add in all your favourite flavours and spices. If you prefer a little spice add some chilli or, if you like a creamy pasta dish, add some mozzarella or mascarpone.

This can take you back to your favourite little village in Italy where you had the best pasta of your life, and now every time you start your sauce you hope it to be an exact replica of it. Paired with your favourite ready-to-drink negroni cocktail another trademark of Italian culture.

Taco Tuesdays

The name “Taco” itself is a relatively new term for “taquito” and is thought to have originated in Mexico as the food of the working class. This led to a street food option called “tacos de minero”, also known as “miner’s tacos”. The everyday staple was affordable, filling and delicious, they traditionally consisted of a spicy filling within a corn tortilla.

Nowadays, tacos are now available in Mexican restaurants and fast-food restaurants becoming a lot more popular as authentic Mexican restaurants are leaving behind altering their menu to fit within the Americanised and British cuisines and sticking to traditional ingredients and they are becoming the newest comfort food option.

This is bringing the taste and feel of Mexico right to our front door and has become a staple and safe option for a takeaway meal because people are never disappointed.

American Cheese Burger

Lionel Sternberg takes complete credit for the invention of the American classic cheeseburger. It was initially just added to create a bit of a tang to the taste and when he figured he liked it, he rolled with it and now’s born the staple cheeseburger we all know and love.

This has inspired a range of people to create their own by adding as many or as little toppings as you want to make their perfect burger. It’s become a barbeque necessity and just hits the spot and brings back those moments when the sun was beaming, water balloons were being filled and you were surrounded by your family.

It also turned into a huge hangover cure for people where everywhere they go, they will always have a burger option whether it’s a local pub or a new vegan restaurant. It has become a comfort food to thousands because it is so hard to get wrong, it is easy to make at home and is such as heartfilling meal that is also affordable thanks to America.
