Vick Files Guilty Plea
So Michael Vick has decided to file the plea early. As expected, he plead guilty to the two things he was charged with, but not to gambling or to killing dogs.
Here is a copy of the PDF of his Statement of Facts

So he did supply most of the bankroll. Surprise surprise. Not good for him obviously, but could have been much, much worse. Vick is not having dinner with these “pals” anytime soon….I know that. About 6-7 years too late for that though. In the statement of fact is states vick did not receive any proceeds, big help for the future of his career. So he paid when they lost, and let his boyz keep the loot when they won. Interesting way to wager. Maybe..maybe not… He does admit he funded the gambling operation.
This looks like it gives Goodell enough wiggle room for a suspension. We will have to wait and see, I have been wrong before. In the end though I think the NFL and Goodell will want Vick back, and this gives them enough room to allow it. The real loser in all of this is the Falcons. basically, Mike, due to his own selfish stupidity, screwed them. Best part i have heard, Vick agreed to be a gov’t witness in other cases… all i have hoped would come out of all of this is that Vick would admit he was wrong, and that he would help the gov’t catch other dog fighting rings (including other high profile NFL/NBA players involved), we’ll see if he actually does all of this, but one can hope…

Reading the Vick letters of support to the judge on CNN I was struck in how they all excused this deep flaw for cruelty as a “mistake” and growing up in a neighborhood where no-one got arrested for dog fighting. He just had no empathic connection with the dogs as a life form that unfortunately fell into his choking hands. I am surprised even his mother tried to ignore this aspect in writing the judge. She just looked at it as “a bad”.
They are immoral, they just don’t see the importance of dog’s lives, in addition to him being criminally involved in gambling, fighting and creulity and death to dogs, etc. If they simply asked for lenency and they would work on his redemption that would be one thing. Christian mercy is a fair request and everyone is redeemable under God’s eyes. But I think the first part of the process is to realize the pain you have inflicted upon another so you can see what you have done. Dog’s, mammals like us, have feelings and memories, and if socialized earlyly a lot of similarities. They get hungry, they have their favorites, they yawn and dream and care about others in the pack or the family they live with. Its more than accepting responsibility. Its being redeemed back into the human fold of being a caring person. In his letter he writes of how his own life has been ruined and makes quite a bit of reference to what he lost, rather than what he had taken from the dogs he fought. Until I read these letters to the judge, I thought the two year sentence seemed enough, but now although I oppose prison where I can, I can see he got off lightly and has learned nothing useful to his soul. Maybe that isn’t the role of the Justice system, but it would be justice in my book to personally fine the management of the Falcons for so overpaying this character in the first place for throwing a pigskin around the field.(130 million dollars to this person? comeon!)
