Michael Vick RICHMOND, Va. — Michael Vick’s lawyer said Monday the Atlanta Falcons quarterback will plead guilty after being indicted on dogfighting charges along with three co-defendants. “After consulting with his family over the weekend, Michael Vick asked that I announce today that he has reached an agreement with federal prosecutors regarding the charges pending against him,” lead defense attorney Billy Martin said in a statement. “Mr. Vick has agreed to enter a plea of guilty to those charges and to accept full responsibility for his actions and the mistakes he has made. Michael wishes to apologize again to everyone who has been hurt by this matter.”

Vick’s plea hearing will be Aug. 27, Martin said. Martin’s announcement came as a grand jury that could add new charges met in private. Prosecutors had said that a superseding indictment was in the works, but Vick’s plea most likely means he will not face additional charges.Quanis Phillips, of Atlanta, and Purnell Peace, of Virginia Beach, entered plea agreements and agreed to testify against Vick. Tony Taylor, of Hampton, struck a similar deal last month. Vick’s attorneys were negotiating with federal prosecutors last week, hoping to strike a deal on a plea agreement. Prosecutors have declined to comment outside court on negotiations with Vick’s attorneys. Vick originally plead not guilty to charges last month and was slated for trial Nov. 26. Two of Vick’s co-defendants pleaded guilty Friday and said he bankrolled gambling on dogfights at Vick’s property in rural Surry County, not far from his hometown of Newport News. One defendant said Vick helped drown or hang dogs that didn’t perform well in fights.The gambling allegations alone could trigger a lifetime ban under the NFL’s personal conduct policy.

If coach Phil ever shoots up the UT locker room, we’ll be all over him like one of Vick’s pit-bulls on a poodle.

This statement was recently made in the Bristol Herald Courier by editor J Todd Foster. If you’re not familiar with Foster, he’s the subject of numerous controversies. He seems to tick people off wherever he goes. He’s jumped around from one periodical to the next, encountering lawsuits, and angering readers unfortunate enough to glance upon his writing.

He’s always been a jerk, as any journalist who’s ever had the displeasure of working with him will tell you. This time with his cheap shot at Virginia Tech, making light of the horrible tragedy, he’s just gone too far.

Vick Files Guilty Plea

So Michael Vick has decided to file the plea early. As expected, he plead guilty to the two things he was charged with, but not to gambling or to killing dogs.

So he did supply most of the bankroll. Surprise surprise. Not good for him obviously, but could have been much, much worse. Vick is not having dinner with these “pals” anytime soon….I know that. About 6-7 years too late for that though. In the statement of fact is states vick did not receive any proceeds, big help for the future of his career. So he paid when they lost, and let his boyz keep the loot when they won. Interesting way to wager. Maybe..maybe not… He does admit he funded the gambling operation.

This looks like it gives Goodell enough wiggle room for a suspension. We will have to wait and see, I have been wrong before. In the end though I think the NFL and Goodell will want Vick back, and this gives them enough room to allow it. The real loser in all of this is the Falcons. basically, Mike, due to his own selfish stupidity, screwed them. Best part i have heard, Vick agreed to be a gov’t witness in other cases… all i have hoped would come out of all of this is that Vick would admit he was wrong, and that he would help the gov’t catch other dog fighting rings (including other high profile NFL/NBA players involved), we’ll see if he actually does all of this, but one can hope…

Vick ‘em t-shirts… too soon?

In a valient effort to poke a little fun at the Michael Vick scandal and irk rival Texas A&M, students at Texas Tech created a t-shirt displaying a football player hanging a dog with the slogan “Vick ‘Em” across the front.

A&M and Tech play this weekend. The “Vick ‘Em” slogan is in reference to the A&M slogan “Gig ‘em” and the dog being hung in the photo is A&M’s mascot. The player doing the hanging is wearing a number seven jersey — that’s Vick’s number.

Amazingly enough, the shirts were created by the Theta Chi fraternity at Texas Tech in an effort to raise money for the Student Animal Legal Defense Fund. According to the Daily Toreador, Texas Tech’s student paper, the t-shirts are no longer being produced, and the frat was kicked off campus as a result.

“We realize the shirts shouldn’t have been printed,” Geoffrey Candia, who created the the shirts. Hindsight is 20-20!
